Archeological museum of Vathy:

The museum collections include finds from the Geometric to the Roman years of excavations in the Aetos and the other locations.

Of particular interest is a class of vessels of the Geometric period obtained from local laboratory.

Also impressive is the collection of small items. These miniature objects presented by the faithful in the shrine of Apollo located in P.Aetow which in the same area also found many figurines. Among the finds include a small bronze bust of Odysseus. The Museum has significant of geometric collection.

The most important exhibits are Ring-shaped vessel with angled walls, decorated with dense thin films on the sides of the ring, striped triangles and neck panels with cross handle.

 

 

Archeological museum of Stavros:

 

It houses finds from the northern Ithaca dating from the proto-Helladic as the Roman period. The building was constructed in 1933. In 1994 was reform of the report and repairs of the Museum.
stavrosMost finds are from the excavations at the Cave of Loizos and Pilikata of the British Archaeological School at Athens.
The cave was mainly devotional character. Investigated the Pilikata remains of a prehistoric settlement.

The most important exhibits are:
Departments of large bronze tripods from Cave City, 9th - 8th century BC
Ceramic plate depicting a rooster from Cave City, 7th century BC (Corinth).
Fragments of a clay mask first or second century AD bearing the inscription engraved prayer Ulysses.
Relief depicting nymphs dancing in Cave City. Hellenistic period.

In the 1996 the museum has included the collection of a series of etchings by JHW TISCHBREIN (1751-1829) with figures of Homer, courtesy of the Centre for Odyssean Studies.
The purpose of the museum is to better coordinate the activities for the conservation, development and dissemination of cultural heritage of the island of Ithaca in particular:

exploration, rescue, preservation, recording and presentation of items that are unique witnesses of a bygone era that so far remains largely affects the culture of our island and the preservation and promotion of our folk traditions, our cultural heritage, and our remarkable naval history.
