Loizos Cave

Outside of  the village Stavros , at the end of the coast of the City where is an ancient sunken city , lies the cave of Loizos.

 

Named by Loizos , a real person who became wealthy by selling antiquities in ancient gold coins found at random in the cave .

In excavations in the cave found bronze vessels and clay mask fragment with the inscription " ΕΥΧΗΝ ΟΔΥΣΣΕΙ " (Prayer to Odysseus) 2nd century . BC

The findings outlined in the archaeology Museum of Stavros.

The cave was a center of worship of the early Greek period as the 1st century AD as evidenced by the findings that include statues of deities such as Artemis , Athena and Hera .
