Perched atop the Vouni area, southwest of Perachori village, lies the Monastery of the Archangels – a place where whispers of past devotion mingle with the beauty of the Ionian landscape. Founded in 1645, this historic monastery stands as a testament to the enduring faith of the Ithacan people.

Though the ravages of time and the 1953 earthquake have left the monastery in disrepair, its legacy continues to resonate. The once vibrant complex housed a church, the residence of the abbot, and living quarters for monks, serving as a spiritual center for the community.

One captivating element of the monastery’s story is the fate of its wooden temple. Salvaged after the earthquake, it found a new home within the Church of St. Raphael in Perachori. This act of preservation ensures that a part of the Monastery of the Archangels’ history lives on, a tangible link between past and present.

Today, the Monastery of the Archangels stands as a silent sentinel, shrouded in an aura of mystique. It beckons visitors seeking a glimpse into the island’s religious heritage and a moment of peaceful reflection amidst the scenic Ionian hills.
