Starting at the gate of the Kathara Monastery, we walk approximately 250 meters along the asphalt road until we see a red mark on a rock to our left, indicating the beginning of the path. Following these red marks, we embark on a journey across Niritos Mountain, the highest peak on Ithaca.
This ancient pathway once connected the southern part of the island to the north. The track is mostly horizontal, providing magnificent views of the island and the eastern sea.
As we progress, the path winds midway between the asphalt road and the summit of Niritos Mountain.
The trail eventually leads us to the asphalt road at the outskirts of Anoghi village.
In the village square, we can admire the 12th-century Basilica of the Assumption, renowned for its beautiful frescoes and the imposing Venetian bell tower from the 17th century.
Next to the church, an old café offers refreshments, coffee, and meals, providing a perfect spot to rest and reflect on the journey.
