Standing sentinel on the outskirts of Campos, near the road leading to the fish farms, lies the charming chapel of Saint Elias. Though its exact birthdate remains a captivating mystery, this little sanctuary exudes a sense of timeless devotion.
Constructed with traditional stone blocks and adorned with a touch of white plaster, the chapel features a classic wooden roof. Stepping inside, you’ll find a floor paved with stones, adding a touch of rustic charm. The focal point is the iconostasis, a beautiful wooden structure adorned with four vibrant Festal icons. A handcrafted wooden door with a unique arched stone casing completes the simple yet elegant design.
Every year, on July 20th, the chapel comes alive with the celebration of Saint Elias, the greatest prophet of the Old Testament. This vibrant festival draws the community together, a testament to the enduring power of faith on Ithaca.
