The Association of Friends of Theatre and Cinema of Ithaca “Forkys” since 1990 and every year until today has made a great contribution to the cultural life of Ithaca.
It started with Chekhov’s “Cherry Orchard” and every year it presents a theatrical performance for adults and one for children.
“Forkys” is a “child” of the Ithaca Theatre Festival 1975-2002, which left indelible marks of theatrical creation to the young children of Ithaca at that time. “Forkys” promises to “resurrect” this festival with the help of all the theatre people of the country who found the opportunity to give the best they were inspired and had to offer on the theatre stage.
Among the plays he has staged we note Richard Nash’s “The Rainmaker”, Molière’s “Tartuffe”, P. Shaffer’s “Black Comedy”, R. Brooke’s “Lithuania”, D. Koromilas’ “Death of Pericles”, Gr. Xenopoulos, “Sunday Walk” by Z. Michel, “Ecclesiastes”, Aristophanes’ “Lysistrata”, “The Tale with No Name” by Campanelis, Brecht’s “Opera of the Five”, Lorca’s “Germa” and many more.
The financial support of the association comes from its few loyal sponsors and from the theatrical audience of Ithaca that fills the hall of the performances to capacity.
