Written by Ithacorama Portal on 13.02.2012The graphical village of Frikes lies on the northeast part of the island 19 km away from Vathi. In the small port you will see two traditional windmills and small beautiful Beaches that attract many people.
Frikes show archaeological interest as it is identified with the Homeric Reithrou port.
The name Frikes either originated from the ancient god Frikon, or from the pirate Frikon who used the bay as his base.
Today no more than 100 people live in the village permanently with their main sources of income being farming, fishing, and tourism during the summer.
