Anogi
Written by Ithacorama Portal on 08.02.2012Anogi is a mountain village situated 16km northwest of Vathy and it is the oldest village on Ithaca.
Very impressive are the prehistoric megalithic monuments, known as Menir, with the highest rock “Arakli” being 8m tall.
In the area you will find remains of the medieval era and in the village you will see an imposing Venetian bell tower. Also in Anogi there is a small traditional café-restaurant where you can enjoy the local cuisine and admire the magnificent view of the Ionian Sea. There is also the church of the Virgin Mary and the heliport of the island.
From Anogi you can reach the mountain Niritos, the highest of Ithaca and there are also several caves to explore.
From the village begins a wonderful path that leads to Kioni.
