Relax and Relief

My name is Mersini Taliouri and I was born in Athens . I have been living on the island of Ithaca for the past 8 years and have been a Reiki and massage Therapist.

My studio is located in the heart of the Vathi minutes from the sea.

Since 2002 I have been involved with Reiki ,whereas my journey for therapeutic massage began in 2008.

The training I received in Athens is of great importance ,since it was from very experienced masters from India and Thailand.

The Full Body Massage

The Full body massage is a combination of tranquil therapeutic massage that combines Thai, Ayurveda and deep tissue massage, sport massage, trigger points and Swedish ,with the ultimum purpose of relieving the body from all negative aspects of stress, lack of exercise and intense lifestyle.

In the Full Body massage there is use of different tactiques ,with the fingers , elbows, knuckles, forearms and fists , unblocking the muscles ,joints and blood flow that have been blocked .

Starting from the feet, toes , calfs , thighs ,lower part of the hand and upper, the palms, fingers, head ,shoulder, neck and back. In that way there can be stress relief ,the intensity that has been piled up within , offering a wholesome sensation of relaxation and vitality in all levels.

Benefits of Full Body massage:

Relieves muscles from stiffness

Soothes the pain

Reduces tiredness

Increases the elasticity of muscles

Improves the blood flow ,promoting more oxygen to the blood cells

Is very beneficial to the detoxification of the body

Strengthens the immune system

Digresses stress

Revitalizes and gives the sensation of vitality to body and spirit

Balances the body’s energy.

REIKI

Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing. It is administered by "laying on hands" and is based on the idea that an unseen "life force energy" flows through us and is what causes us to be alive. If one's "life force energy" is low, then we are more likely to get sick or feel stress, and if it is high, we are more capable of being happy and healthy

The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words - Rei which means "God's Wisdom or the Higher Power" and Ki which is "life force energy". So Reiki is actually "spiritually guided life force energy."

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.

Hot /Cold Stone Massage

Heat has been a therapeutic mean for thousands of years, evolving as a method as time goes on.

This specific method has been used all over the globe with different ways of application from one place to the other.

The sensation of hot stones organic and essential oils on the body triggers every muscle and every joint .

The heat helps the muscle relax and the complexion to absorb the essential oils , with the receiver feeling a beautiful sensation and its therapeutic powers.

The Hot Stone massage is particularly appealing to those who love the heat , as well as everybody else.

During the winter season, the body suffers from stiffness due to the cold and intense temperature changes , the Hot Stone massage helps soothe the body.

During the summer season it’s ideal ,for it helps the body adapt to the heat.

Benefits

Hot Stone massage balances the energy flow.

Regulates the blood and oxygen

relaxes the nervous system and stimulates lymphatic system.

Relieves in an instant stiffness and helps release toxins through the system , making it easier for the skin to breathe.

It’s very therapeutic in cases of arthritis and ischialgia.

It helps fight stress ,sleeping disorders as well as all cases of emotional troubles.

The session

During the session ,hot oil is spread throughout the body. Following the stones is placed all over the back with the stones being the mean of pressure.

The stones are basalt, a volcanic material rich in the iron element which is known for its ability to sustain the heat for a long period of time.

The session takes place in an 85' time frame.

In cases of flevitis, varicose veins and spider veins, the massage in these specific areas is applied with less intensity with cold stones

Hot /Cold Stone massage is not recommended in cases of :

1) Skin problems, such as dermatitis , eczema ,rashes or open wounds.

2) Recent surgical operations

3) Recent exposure to radiation from chemotherapy.

4) In cases of heart conditions

5) In cases of pregnancy

**For all the above consult with your doctor before Hot / Cold Stone massage.

Thai Foot Massage

The Thai foot massage is consisted of a blend of the shiatsu technique ,reflexology, Chinese massage and yoga and has become an inevitable part of the traditional Thai massage.

Differences between Thai foot massage and Reflexology.

The Thai Foot massage applies the massage pressure as well as stretching of feet , ankles knees and lower ends with the ultimate purpose to open the energy channels(shen lines ) in all the body.

For the application of the massage apart from the fingers ,there is use of the traditional Thai stick which is used to trigger every part of the foot, with each part of the foot reflecting every internal organ of the body, therefore there is healing has as an outcome the stimulation of the whole body .

The therapy is a bit more intense than in reflexology and it achieves a very high level of relaxation and release.

The Thai foot massage is a revitalizing and tonic therapy. As reflexology it stimulates the internal organs ,offering this way a holistic therapy.

The Thai foot massage concentrates in massage techniques of the feet and the shank , calf ,knees and back part of the knees with the use of the hands as a mean for the massage as well as use of special sticks on the primary points of reflexology .

In that way there is stimulation of the body’s energy ,helping in the balance of the internal organs and body's functions.

*Based on the above my personal stand point and belief is:

Every type of massage has a way of relaxing one’s self ,as well has its own therapeutic value.

The main aspect is that the massage therapist needs to realize and understand the needs of the receiver , to recognize the areas that need be emphasized , as to wisely know the proper techniques , to have the proper education and of course to also enjoy and love what he does.

Namaste!
