Cave of the Nymphs
Written by chris ithacorama on 04.11.2013North of the town Vathy is the Cave of the Nymphs , which is a cave sanctuary , dedicated to the Nymphs .
The cave is closed this period and it is not recommended to visit
Often the cave is called by the name Marmarospilia .
Anna Petrocheilou , in her book The caves of Greece , says that according to tradition , it is probably the Homeric cave , which worshiped Nymphs Naiads .
In this cave is speculated that Odysseus hid the treasures given to him by the Phaeacians , at the way back to Ithaca .
There are two entrances, from what is said one is for the gods and the other for people.
In the cave, there are stalagmites , and relics of an ancient altar .
